Personal Statement

Stan is a core faculty member in the Graduate Program in Conflict Resolution at Portland State University and he maintains a private practice as a mediator, facilitator and trainer. He is also a consultant for Indian Dispute Resolution Services, a national non-profit American Indian organization. For ten years he was the Coordinator of the Clackamas County Dispute Resolution Center, a community mediation program in the Portland metropolitan area. He has more than 20 years of experience as an attorney practicing general civil law and as Litigation Director for Legal Services programs. Stan has been on the Executive Committee of the Alternative Dispute Resolution Section of the Oregon State Bar for five years, and he was a member of the Board of Directors of the Oregon Mediation Association for six years.

Stan is the father of two wonderful twenty-something daughters who have taught him most of what he knows about conflict resolution. He shares a house in the country (about 12 miles outside of Portland) with his wife Peggy and a dozen chickens, one rooster, three ducks, four cats and a dog. Fortunately the horses and goats have moved on to greener pastures. Stan is a bicyclist, hiker, and avid outdoorsman, although his joints do not offer the range of movement they once did.
